What should I pack if I’m going to a beach house for a week if the weather is uncertain?

July 3rd, 2009

Okay, I live in Australia, and it may be cold and rainy down at the beach, but me, my family, my friend and boyfriend are going to my family’s beach house.

It may rain, so what should I pack (besides the obvious wet weather gear?)

Also, should the guests (who are coming a day later) bring anything besides their own clothes?

Pack as if the weather will be beautiful. So your cossie, your towel, sunglasses, towels, etc. etc.

And also pack if the weather will be horrible. The beach gets REALLY cold in the winter. So take some warm stuff. Especially for at night. Socks in bed are a must.
(And froggy beanies!)

Umm. Take entertainment, as well. DVDs and Singstar or something? Because if it’s rainy, there’s not much else to do.

Take your mp3 player.

CDs for the drive up there!

And if guests want, they can bring anything they want, really. Whatever they might think could be fun to do.

Take a pack of cards. Or two. They can turn out to be fun.

Twister? Board games. They are not just a 90s fad. They are amazing.

Where to stay in Hawaii what island for "second honeymoon"?

July 3rd, 2009

What island in Hawaii should we go to for our "second honeymoon"
or just a nice peaceful vacation. We’d like things to be able to do, neat things to do and/or see & hopefully nice relaxed people.
Our honeymoon was in Jamaica which we fell in love with–very peaceful, very nice nature and natural, very nice laid back people, a lot of things to do.

Please help me with the Hawaiian people, culture, things to do, where to stay, etc.

I would recommend Maui. It is not as crowded as the other islands, but it still has a lot to do. You can go to the beach, go snorkeling, go shopping, go on a whale watching trip (if you go at the right time), tour a volcano, or do the Road to Hana, which is a beautiful drive through the rainforest. One of the best aspects of the island is that there are really nice resorts like the Grand Wailea and the Royal Lahaina that would be the perfect place to spend a second honeymoon. Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!

What should my family name our beach house?

July 1st, 2009

I am buying a sign for my mom for her birthday and I want it to be specially made for her. You all know beach house names usually use play on words or jokes so do your best to keep it clean and funny. She likes lizards, flamingos, Jimmy Buffet, and anything else beach/tropic related. Thanks guys

Oh i love these!

ok, here are a few, as I am a parrothead as well…

"Mr. Twain’s retreat" (from A salty peice of Land, his horse)
"Spacestation" (from where is joe merchant)
"(your mom’s name) ’s One Particular Harbor" - my personal favorite
"Bananaland" (from Jolly Mon childrens book)
"Jolly (your moms name)"
"The Last Mango" (or the first….)
"Took another road"

For anyone who went to Hawaii for their honeymoon recently?

June 29th, 2009

Was it expensive? About how much did the trip cost you in total? And what part of Hawaii did you go to?

Thanks! We are considering Hawaii for our honeymoon, but have been told it is quite expensive.

We didn't go for a honeymoon - we renewed our vows there for our 20th wedding anniversary and had a 2nd honeymoon in November 2008. The airfare was a bit steep - it was around Thanksgiving, but we had always wanted to go.

We stayed at a very old locally owned hotel called the Royal Grove. It was 535.00 for the entire week! Very cheap, kind of like a Motel 6, but we didn't care, I mean how much time did we really spend in the room? We looked at the Embassy Suites - it was 289.00 per nite.

All told, we spent around 2800.00. We didn't do expensive stuff or eat at expensive restaurants except for one night - we aren't really that kind of people. We ate at local places, very reasonable, probably 8-12 per person per meal. And actually we found a grocery store and had coffee, fruit and rolls in our room each morning, so not much spent there. We used their bus - 20.00 for a 4 day pass per person. The 2800.00 included our vow renewal ceremony which had pictures, flowers and the officiant, so pretty good deal.

We stayed on Oahu and loved it. I had been before, but my husband hadn't. It's not necessarily the most romantic island, but heck, it's Hawaii and when you come from Oklahoma, you don't get to the beach that often!

Much luck to you - check the package deals on the internet - they have some pretty good deals now. We are already planning or return trip for 2010 and yep, we will stay at the Royal Grove.

EDIT: I should add that I pre-paid for a tour for both of us (150.00 total) and our transportation to/from the airport (30.00 total), so I guess that runs it around 3,000. Totally worth it!! We stayed 7 nights.

Who is the best travel agent for Hawaii honeymoons in St. Charles Missouri?

June 26th, 2009

My fiance and I are getting married next year and are planning to go to Hawaii on our honeymoon. We live in St. Charles/St. Peters, MO and are looking for an awesome travel agent with experience of helping plan romantic Hawaii vacations. If anyone has any opinions/ideas of what travel agent to use, we'd be pleased to here your response. Thank you!!!!

Don't bother wasting time with a travel agent, it's just extra fees for stuff you can find online for WAY cheaper! I used to use an agent & for awhile they did have some good deals, but not anymore. prices are lower everywhere now that travel has slowed, so your best bet is to go through a broker - similar to agents in buying power but without the fees!

Check out this site they have everything you need from 5 star hotels at 2 star prices, Fun Passes for each island and even free airfare passes. Aloha!

Cheap, passport-less, tropical travel destination on/near a beach that requires no rental car?

June 26th, 2009

It must meet all the criteria above. Also, a hotel recommendation would be helpful. Thank you so much!

You should just drive down to someplace in Florida. There are lots of nice places there with pretty beaches and everything. Destin is pretty nice.

Hawaii Honeymoon Planning Advice Please!?

June 16th, 2009

My fiancé and I are getting married on May 10th 2008. We are so excited about taking our Honeymoon to Hawaii, since neither of us has been there. We are open to the island we stay at but do NOT want to stay in a hotel. We are looking for a private condo on the beach so we can cook our own food and have the comforts of our “own” home. Something that is nice, yet affordable, our budget will be about $6000 total for maybe 10 days.

Also, we want our condo to be secluded but give us the option to take our rental car to a nice dinner, grocery shop and do fun activities. We want to be able to be in somewhat close proximity to swimming with dolphins, a zip line experience, surf lessons, horseback riding and jet skiing.

So if anyone has any lodging recommendations and activity information I would really appreciate it. Like I mentioned we have no idea where to begin with planning and are hoping we can find the island of our dreams. We are hoping to make this the trip of a lifetime!

The only island where you can be sure to be able to swim with dolphins is Oahu. (They also offer it on the Big Island of Hawaii, but not everyone who wants to do it there can get a turn.) But Oahu is the most crowded island by far.

A private condo on a beach is going to be very expensive. Most great beach property is taken up by big resort hotels or big not-very-private condos.

I suggest Maui as the best island. It is not as crowded as Oahu, and there is a lot more to do than on Kauai or the Big Island of Hawaii. There are two zip lines, several horseback riding places (including one that can take you into Haleakala crater on horseback), surf lessons and jet skiing (though no swimming with dolphins on Maui).

Lots of info about Maui sights, activities, condos, restaurants and more is at
